In
April we travelled up the Blue Mountains west of Sydney to the very
fine timber dining room of our friends Roger and Liz to record our second
CD "escape". We had James Cadsky from The Vault
with his portable recording equipment to capture the sounds again and
for the first time the band also had the help and guidance of a producer,
Jim Moginie the renowned guitarist and writer from Midnight Oil who
joined us for some music and a bushwalk! |
1.
Escape to the Wilderness (McBurney)
i) The train ride ii) The wilderness
Passengers leave the train and move into the wilderness forest. Gradually
they become more in tune with the wildness and serenity of their destination.
2. Happiness - the Willy Wagtail song (McBurney)
Watch this little bird dance and wiggle it's tailfeathers.
3. Wangilla Billabong (trad arr. McBurney)
Wangilla means ghost and a billabong is a waterhole. The wangilla makes a
ghostly entrance, moves around the billabong, and does a dance before quietly
leaving.
4. Sunset Dance (McBurney)
The birds in the bush make a last flurry of sound and movement before settling
down for the night.
5. The Sea (McBurney)
The didge starts by making three tugboat calls and two cargo boat calls to
begin, then whales, dolphins and seagulls. The flute represents the fluid
movement of the sea. Henry finishes the piece with the kulup - a traditional
percussion instrument that simulates the sound of water running over shells
on a beach.
PLEASE NOTE: All wildlife sounds except early morning Blue Mountains birds
on track 6 made by Henry on didge with no overdubbing, so what you hear on
the CD is what you hear when we play live.
